King Midas is a Norwegian band, playing a unique mix of art pop, electronica, lounge-jazz, blues and psychedelia. Roy Buchanan gilt bis heute als "der beste unbekannte Gitarrist der Welt". Die Rolling Stones wollten ihn als Nachfolger für Brian Jones, Eric Clapton als Gitarrist bei Derek & The Dominos - beides Angebote, die er ablehnte. Roy Buchanan war ein Meister auf der Fender Telecaster-Gitarre, sein Spiel beeinflusste Musiker wie z.B. Gary Moore, oder Jeff Beck maßgeblich. Roy Buchanan wuchs in Kalifornien auf, wo er auch Gitarre lernte. Als Teenager zog er nach Los Angeles und spielte mit Spencer Dryden (später der Drummer von Jefferson Airplane) in der Band Heartbeats. Danach tourte er mit Dale Hawkins und spielte mit Robbie Robertson (The Band), der Buchanan später als einen seiner Haupteinflüsse bezeichnete. In den 60er Jahren heiratete Roy Buchanan, zog nach Washington DC und arbeitete als Studiomusiker an mehr als 100 Produktionen, vornehmlich für Freddy Canon und Leiber/Stoller. Erst 1971 erschien sein erstes Solo-Album, was dazu führte, dass er und sein unnachahmliches Spiel auf der Fender Telecaster von Größen wie John Lennon, Eric Clapton oder den Rolling Stones als Geheimtipp gehandelt wurde. Die ab 1985 aufgenommenen Alben "When A Guitar Plays The Blues" (1985), "Dancing On The Edge" (1986) und "Hot Wires" (1987) gehören zu den Highlights seiner Karriere. Nur drei Jahre vor seinem tragischen Selbstmord wurde dieses Rockpalast-Konzert am 24. Februar 1985 in der Markthalle in Hamburg aufgenommen. Ein Auftritt, bei dem Roy Buchanans Genie als Gitarrist in einzigartiger Weise überzeugt - nicht zuletzt durch seine kongenialen Cover-Versionen u.a. von Jimi Hendrix oder Don Gibson. Erlend Øye & La Comitiva - 'La Comitiva': In einer kleinen Stadt wie Siracusa, Italien, findet das gesellige Beisammensein meist in den Häusern der Menschen statt und besteht aus: Zutaten für ein Essen kaufen, das Essen zubereiten und reden, das Essen essen und reden, die Instrumente holen und stundenlang am Tisch sitzen und spielen und singen. Erlend spielt eine Ukulele, Marco spielt Nylonsaitengitarre, Luigi spielt Cavaquinho, ein brasilianisches Samba-Instrument, und Stefano spielt Bass auf denselben Stahlsaitengitarren, die Erlend bei Kings of Convenience verwendet. Die Band wurde während einer Tournee 2018 durch Chile, Argentinien, Kolumbien und Mexiko professionalisiert. Während dieser Tour entstanden viele der ursprünglichen Songs der Band, wie Altiplano, dessen Arrangement in einer staubigen Grenzstation zwischen Chile und Peru stattfand. Nach vielen unfreiwilligen Pausen (Covid, Veröffentlichung des Kings of Convenience-Albums, Veröffentlichung des Marco Castello-Albums) wird die Full Length LP "La Comitiva" im Frühjahr 2024 endlich das Licht der Welt erblicken. 2016 wurde Erlend während des kollaborativen Festivals "People" in Berlin auf das freigeistige Klassik-Ensemble Stargaze aufmerksam und er begann, einige der Mitglieder in Studio-Aufnahme-Sessions und Live-Konzerte mit La Comitiva einzubinden.

Known for their cinematic take on sludgy, extremely cavernous, and borderline psychedelic Metal, the Richmond band broadens their dynamics by seesawing between piledriving momentum and swirling oblivion. New Heaven crushers and conquers, and illustrates what INTER ARMA can truly be. Take the title track, with its hair-raising lead riff stemming from drummer/songwriter TJ Childers’ challenge to himself to write a nonsensically dissonant part that he ended up loving. The song spirals upward into a punishing Death-Metal march, Meanwhile, vocalist Mike Paparo’s stentorian bellows the bludgeon, above an impossibly complicated web of riffs and rhythms. From the get go, New Heaven and the opening title track eschews any restraint - INTER ARMA is completely unchained. Paparo’s keen and empathetic lyrics about innocent victims of war, addiction, and social apathy affirm that feeling, as a survivor grimaces at the carnage behind him and presses ahead best he can. “You stared into the brutish jaws of strife’s heartless device,” he growls into a chthonic blitz during “The Children the Bombs Overlooked,” a late-album powerhouse. “And you turned your back to hell.” That forward march out of madness is New Heaven in an armor-plated nutshell. Though this is indeed another INTER ARMA triumph, it is not a triumphant album, meant to offer some glib or naïve assurance that everything will be fine. What evidence is there for that, really, either on a record where friends are forced into submission, addiction, suicide, or retreat to a world where suffering remains the lingua franca? No, INTER ARMA and New Heaven are too realistic and experienced for that. This is, instead, a record about enduring brambles and curses and lasting long enough to make something profound, honest, and even affirming about it all every now and again—exactly as INTER ARMA has on New Heaven. Sharratt und Kom sind vor allem als Teil der kanadischen Garagen-Folk-Band The Burning Hell bekannt. "Die Kanadier fingen erst richtig an, als Arnaud Geoffroy sich hinters Schlagzeug klemmte, ein Bierbrauer im Brotberuf. Die Einstellung stimmt also. Und ihre Musik passt dazu. Die Gitarristen spielen trockene AC/DC-Riffs, aber nicht mit der wilden Unbedingtheit der Australier, sondern eher mit der Contenance und harmonischen Akribie des Siebziger-AOR. The complete original album Money Jungle (United Artists UAS 15017), which was the only trio collaboration of Duke Ellington with Charles Mingus and Max Roach. Both youngsters greatly admired Duke. Ellington himself briefly featured Roach in his band during the early 1950s, and expressed on multiple occasions his appreciation for Mingus' compositions. Back On Black Records are set to reissue the D.R.I. "Greatest Hits" album, originally released in 2001. D.R.I.'s music has combined elements of punk rock, thrash metal, speed metal and heavy metal, while their early material has been described as hardcore punk. They are often cited as one of the key bands that helped create the crossover thrash genre, along with S.O.D., Suicidal Tendencies and Corrosion Of Conformity.

The third studio album from Rebecca Downes with 12 new, original blues-influenced, rock tracks all written by Steve Birkett and Rebecca. Album mixed by Bill Drescher and Chris Childs. With exciting new material that continues the evolution of the music towards rock, More Sinner Than Saint is worth the wait. The multi award winning Alan Nimmo (King King) plays guitar on If I Go To Sleep and Magnum’s Tony Clarkin delivers a fabulous guitar solo on Breathe Out. With her signature voice, style and song writing, it was little wonder that last year she was voted Female Vocalist of the Year at the FORM UKBlues Awards. The release of this jubilant new album once again gives her the chance to showcase her formidable powerhouse and gutsy vocals in tracks that have greater range and depth than anything she’s done before. Over the last couple of decades, Charlie Parr has crisscrossed the world on tour more times than one can count. He also has released over a dozen albums of his songs, acclaimed for their poetic simplicity. Bo Carter's family had a musical tradition going back to slavery times and he learned a great deal from its very talented members

As a Mississippi musician, Bo was steeped in the region's rich early blues repertoire, but was distinctive in adding to it a new level of sophistication rarely equaled by other blues artists. As a member of the great Mississippi Shieks band he encountered a wide range of traditional and pop styles and employed many of them in his innovative performances. One particular part of his repertoire was the sexually suggestive double entendre blues that are featured here on this album. These recordings, which were demonstrably more original than any of his rivals, sold extremely well and helped Bo become one of the most prolific artists of the whole pre war blues period.

Legendary cartoonist and illustrator Robert Crumb was also a captivating musician who with his band The Cheap Suit Serenaders specialized in recreations of both early popular and rural rooted music and newly composed songs in those veins

The group keeps this sort of mid-tempo riffage going for the next couple of tracks. Johnson plays a mean harp on 'Hurt Me (Slight Return)', but things don't really take off until 'In a Dead Man's Suit' and the swaggering, Texas blues 'Chatham Town Welcomes Desperate Men'. The band's punk roots show up in songs like 'An Image of You' and 'Your Crying Means Nothing to Me' while 'Come into My Mind' has a definite Kinks influence. Ricochets started their career back in 1998, and quickly became a force to be reckoned with in the Norwegian rock scene. How do you follow up a work described in the Independent on Sunday as “the best debut album since Marquee Moon”? That’s the question facing singer-songwriter John Canning Yates, twenty years on from the critically acclaimed ‘The First Album’ by his band Ella Guru.
‘The Quiet Portraits’ will appeal to anyone who loves the beautiful melodic soundscapes woven by Brian Wilson, Burt Bacharach, and Tom Waits, while Yates’s unique vocals evoke the emotional fragility and compelling narrative of Neil Young, Paul Buchanan, Mark Linkous and Elliott Smith.

Happiest with headphones on, working alone in the small hours from his Liverpool home, Yates has created another masterpiece.

Tellusalie is a four-piece band from Fredrikstad, Norway. Their third album «The Man Across The Fountain» originally released in 2009, was produced by Knut Schreiner (Turbonegro, Euroboys) and contains no less than 18 timeless folk/country rock tunes. For A Chaos Of Flowers guitarist/vocalist Robin Wattie drew heavily on the poems of artists whom Wattie found kinship in, their words resonant with experiences of those often sidelined by cultural norms. "I discovered that most poems from folk traditions or in the public domain seem to be by men - to which I could not quite relate. In my search, I rediscovered some of my favorite works and poets," says Wattie. Guitarist Mathieu Ball and drummer Tasy Hudson help Wattie shape poetry into pieces as dense and impenetrable as they are vulnerable. BIG|BRAVE achieve their colossal sound through minimalist approaches, a deft understanding of dynamics and an inventive employment of percussion and distortion. The trio reconceptualize what it is to be heavy or minimal, challenging perceptions with their illumination of painfully overlooked perspectives. Guest guitarist Marisa Anderson lends earthen, blues-inflected atmospheres to the album, where guitarist Tashi Dorji and saxophonist Patrick Shiroishi amplify the squall. Working closely with frequent collaborator and producer/engineer Seth Manchester, the internal tumult of Wattie"s voice rings out in warbles, haunting echoes, and unearthly harmonies across bold immense walls of distortion. BIG|BRAVE have collaborated with metal monsters The Body on a previous Thrill Jockey release, Leaving None But Small Birds, and have toured internationally with bands like SUMAC, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, SUNN O))), and Lingua Ignota. As they continue to ascend in their journey as pioneers in the contemporary metal scene, it"s safe to say that BIG|BRAVE are here to stay.

Acclaimed guitar duo Loren Connors and Alan Licht celebrate their 30-year collaboration with release of their eighth album - At The Top Of The Stairs. His collaborators include Oren Ambarchi, Keiji Haino, and Kim Gordon. Rock/experimental musician Alan Licht was a member of the bands Love Child, Run On, and Lee Ranaldo & the Dust, and has released a range of acclaimed rock and experimental albums.
