Pitchfork summed it up thusly: "Black Up is drowned in murky instrumentals and bombastic, introspective rhymes. The sounds flirt with jazz but also root themselves in a firm understanding of silence, or the sparse magic of simplicity. The songs teem with unexpected climaxes...From great mystery exploded an album of impossible vision." That "impossible vision" has continued to confound and engage Shabazz Palaces fans over the course of four acclaimed albums and two EPs. Each release feels like an evolution, letting the music speak for itself, while slowly revealing more about its creator. With The Don of Diamond Dreams, the group's fifth album, that spirit remains, this time embracing modernism in hip-hop and rap. Featuring 10 tracks in 43 minutes, the album features the highlights "Fast Learner (ft. Purple Tape Nate)," "Chocolate Souffle," "Bad Bitch Walking (ft. Stas THEE Boss), and "Thanking The Girls." It also features contributions from singer/keyboardist Darrius Willrich, Seattle's OCnotes (who collaborated with Shabazz leader Ishmael Butler on the Knife Knights project), Los Angeles musician Carlos Overall, and bassist Evan Flory-Barnes. The Don of Diamond Dreams was recorded throughout 2019 and produced by Shabazz Palaces at Protect and Exalt: A Black Space in Seattle, mixed and engineered by Erik Blood at Studio 4 Labs in Venice, California, and mastered by Scott Sedillo at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Los Angeles.

Dark, euphoric, weighty, and somewhat restless, they defy obvious categorisation. Gage has made himself a formidable reputation by releasing some of the most forward-thinking darker dance music in the last three years, predominantly on the ever-quality Crazy Legs imprint. 'Telo' was a standout dancefloor moment, equal parts impactful and experimental, quickly followed up by the "Mercury EP," "2017 STAY PARO" and his banger-collab with Kevin Jz Prodigy, "Bad Bitch." Scratcha DVA first appeared on Keysound 66 releases ago with the explosive dread grime anthem 'Bullet A'Go Fly' featuring Badness, Riko, Flowdan and Killa P. But in truth he has a lengthy production back catalogue both before and after that 12', with albums on Hyperdub, his new 'Interludes' project and a track on the recent landmark Kode9 & Burial Fabriclive 100 CD.

TS08 is the 3rd EP of the TONE SERIES project and in line with the previous two releases TS09 and TS10. However, its two tracks HAWAIAN JAM and 24 BAR PER DAY present rather refreshing grooves, right on time for the summer.

HAWAIAN JAM makes you feel like in a Jeep, driving around the Hill of Mauï while looking at the best waves. And whereas HAWAIAN JAM follows the rythm of cutting edge and caraibian slide guitars with a touch of reggae, 24 BAR PER DAY unveals jumping drums and druggie pumping sounds surrounded by bitchy voice cuts.

With regard to the artwork, as shown on the cover, each track has its own colour. There is neither a A nor a B-side. The same applies to the record vinyl itself. Each track stands on it own. As a result, HAWAIAN JAM and 24 BAR PER DAY distinguish themselves from each other through their vibes and colours, although they remain in the same spirit.

TONE SERIES was born from the collaboration between Villa's former bouncer (one of the most underground clubs of Berlin) - Wolfram, French music producer, live performer and DJ - David K, and LumièresLaNuit's co-founder and An der Grenze's
founder - Edouard. In summary, TONE SERIES brings together the idea of interdependence between music and design: what colour follows on from music and, in return, which musicality
comes out of colours.

For part one of the vinyl series Ivy Lab flips Random Movement's ''Sleazy Bitch'' that was released early 2015 into an amen driven roller with hoover subs and techy clicks and stabs. On the B side Villem reworks Malaky's ''Falling''. It's a beautifully restrained deep stepper with a bruiser of a bassline and intricately designed drum work.
