Der Titel von PERCHTAs zweitem Album "D'Muata" heißt aus dem österreichischen Dialekt von Frontfrau Frau Percht ins Deutsche übertragen "Die Mutter". Der Name ist Programm, denn die Sängerin und ihre Band haben im Kontext ihres folkloristisch geprägten Black Metal ein feministisches Manifest geschaffen. Das Feminine in all seinen Facetten fristet in diesem Genre meist ein Nischendasein - und das, obwohl es ein untrennbarer Bestandteil sowohl des Menschen als auch der natürlichen Welt auf diesem Planeten ist. PERCHTA haben sich 2017 im Jahr ihrer Gründung in Tirol, Österreich nach einer von der älteren Forschung rekonstruierten heidnischen Göttin benannt. Von Anfang an beabsichtigte Frau Percht mit ihrer Musik regionale Traditionen zu bewahren und zu verjüngen. Drei Jahre später erschien das Debütalbum "Ufång" (2020), mit dem sich PERCHTA schnell einen Ruf als höchst individualistische und einzigartige Band erwarben. Dazu gehört, dass die Texte von "Ufång" in der Tiroler Mundart intoniert werden. Dies geschieht mit einem extremen, durch Mark und Bein gehenden Gesang, der in einen Sturm aus Gitarren-Tremolos und ritualistisch interpretierter Folklore eingebettet ist. Nach der globalen Zwangspause machten PERCHTA auch durch ihre faszinierenden Live-Auftritte auf sich aufmerksam. Durch die Konzerte trat der Charakter als Band stärker hervor. Jetzt kehren die schwarze Hexe der Tiroler Berge und ihre Gesellen mit einem magischen neuen Album zurück, das PERCHTA auch zurück auf die Bühne bringen wird!

The Homeliss Derilex are a Milpitas, CA crew and have been making a name for themselves in the underground scene since the early 90's with a superb laidback and jazz-influenced style. They released their self-titled debut back in 1993 on tape, which in the meantime has become an elusive collectable piece. They followed that up by releasing various 12" singles in the 90's and enjoyed a successful stint with Stones Throw Records.

Touted as the “new Doors,” Ars Nova’s second release shows the band genre-bending jazz and heavy psychedelia in a style that’s their own. Shifting from a largely classical centric sound, this was the group’s last album before going their separate ways. Pressed on pink vinyl!

Sunshine & Shadows takes the baroque-meets-psych sound of the debut and turns a bit more to the psych side. The stately brass interludes are gone, but horns still figure prominently in the mix. There’s some jazzy New Orleans flavor to a couple of the tunes, albeit twisted into a 7/4 vamp on “You Had Better Listen.”

The instrumentalists in the band, featuring trumpet and trombone, really give the music a unique flavor, setting them apart from the multitudes of other American psych bands. Ars Nova might be likened to Ultimate Spinach (but without the overly serious, pretentious lyrics) or later Zombies (though with less emphasis on the keyboards).

It’s all very well written and nicely played, and when they do a tender ballad like “Temporary Serenade,” the acoustic guitar is very lute-like, much more along the lines of classical than folk (like the later work of Jan Akkerman with Focus), and the trumpet descant adds a lovely spice.

IMOGEN presents WIGS002 - a four track EP celebrating the women of Wigs, featuring Grace Dahl, NVST, Rebecca Alle Paine and IMOGEN.

WIGS002 kicks off with heavy breaks and kick drums bringing a rough hardcore vibe to IMOGEN’s latest single ‘SHOUTOUT 2 LDN’, premiered by radio legend Mary Anne Hobbs on her Radio 6 show.

IMOGEN samples a vocal from her favourite 90s MC Alex Pearce, adopting the same “zero f***s attitude” of the early 2000s techno scene. She combines this with squelching reese basses and slick programmed breaks to bring the same energy of early warehouse parties to the dancefloors of today.

Next up, Grace Dahl departs from her usual rolling techno style with electro banger ‘I Like Em Sexy’. A fast-paced distorted vocal slides its way through the drums into an epic breakdown before an unexpected 4/4 drop. IMOGEN and Dahl’s musical chemistry shone in their B2B on the Wigs NTS show, making this the perfect A-side combo of the EP.

Upcoming Italian DJ and producer Rebecca Alle Paine keeps up the EP’s high energy with the perfect DJ tool of rolling 909 drums. Hardgroove is having its resurgence right now and Rebecca is a leading light in the genre currently flooding the scene. Wigs isn’t the only label to pick up on Rebecca’s driving style - she recently released an album on hardgroove legend Ben Sims’ label as well as featuring on Freddy K’s KEY. It is clear Rebecca is one to watch for 2024.

NVST closes off the EP in a mind bending Aphex Twin-style crescendo. ‘A Face Has No Voice’ is an eight minute long saga boasting her skill as a multiverse producer. It follows a journey through dub, breaks and IDM. WIGS002 showcases the true diversity of the next generation of musicians, and that one piece of music can traverse many genres.

Wigs kicked off as a project aimed to offer a new approach to party series and workshops with an emphasis on community, bringing like minded ravers together to build a platform for the next generation of artists and party goers. Originally released in 1990, Royal Trux's 'Twin Infinitives' is being re-issued in all its (yet to be translated) alien glory, by Fire Records. A dismantled overture that sprawls out over two records, an avant-garde masterpiece that was the spark for Drag City Records and generations of new sound seeking musicians. Hailed in the same immortal breath as Beefheart's 'Trout Mask Replica', the Velvets' at their frenzied peak and Ornette Coleman at his most avant-garde, the duo of Pussy Galore's Neil "Michael" Hagerty and Jennifer Herrema recorded 'Twin Infinitives' while imbibing all kinds of mind-altering substances to create an inadvertent blueprint for what the duo was building with moog's, guitars and melodicas to name a few ingredients. It is the legendary second album from the masters of the genre mashup - long before "genre mashups" even existed. Arguably, the term "mashup" was coined to describe what Trux, as they subconsciously scrolled through the radio stations of their lives. The album's chaotic sound and offbeat construction laid the foundations for a string of Royal Trux albums that spiralled between genres, tunings, and noise. Through the 90s they would re-invent the rock 'n' roll ethic, straddle alien surf music, re-align boogie rock, not to mention 80s hair metal, and confound critics by their wildly meandering and courageous rites of passage. Remastered as part of a career spanning catalogue deal with Fire Records. The infamous and influential duo of Jennifer Herrema and Neil Hagerty will be delving into the archive with a comprehensive reissue series, unearthing the vaults and revisiting what made them such a compelling benchmark for their contemporaries and imitators. Reawakening their prolific output within a new monochrome vinyl series covering 1988-1993, they begin with their seminal deconstructed rock masterpiece Twin Infinitives. Amsterdam-based flutist Han Litz returns with another genre-bending release where he teamed up with long-time collaborator Kid Sublime. Together they know how to add sincere soulfulness to the dance floor, ranging from house to broken beat-inspired rhythms with Han's captivating flute playing telling the stories. Including stellar remixes by original Bugz In The Attic broken beat icon Daz-I-Kue and rising Dutch talent, Kofi The Unknown.

Colkin (Raw Soul, Mauke Club) kicks off the a-side with a spheric acid house meditation. Next is a track by Peter Seiler which could be found on the extended reissue of his 'Flying Frames' debut LP on Innovative Communication in 1989. It features the soulful voice of Sheryl Hackett. An extraordinary groover that is meandering between song and jazz improvisation. Eoism (Pulse Drift, Undersound, Inch By Inch) complete the a-side with some low-swung electro flavors, driving you straight into sunset.

On the b-side Voertuig (Tonal Oceans, Cobra Club) hit us with a serious and raw acid jam - dark and dirty. On the following track they show us their experimental jazzy side and cool things down again. A track the 1990s downbeat era was missing. Eoism close the first volume of FUTUR with a floating, futuristic banger from their lab.

Benedikt Meger's aspiration for funkscapes was always to feature funk grooves, old and new, fresh and relevant for today. Whether some rare, not so rare or just under the radar recordings from the past or new productions from today's artists across different electronic genres. This idea now culminates into the selection for the compilation FUTUR.

This collaboration between Spanish producer Nueen and Manc vocalist / rapper Iceboy Violet - who has previously sprinkled their magic dust across Hyperdub releases from aya and Loraine James - traces the arc of a four year relationship, memorialising its highs and documenting its lows, processing, reflecting, and then ending with the ecstatic spark of new love. It’s a magical, intimate and heartfelt album, sometimes anguished but often enchanting. Nueen's music responds with foggy, but richly detailed, production. Smudgy drill-laced beats contrast with curdled, spiralling chords, at times drawing out a malevolent ambience. ‘You Said You'd Hold My Hand Through The Fire’ is an immensely affecting and lucid album, powerfully wrought, ultimately hopeful.

„Prism Of Pleasure“ wurde in 18 Monaten geschrieben und fasst Elkkas Wesen als eine LGBTQI+-Künstler:in zusammen, die Freiheit und Sinnlichkeit in den Vordergrund ihrer Arbeit stellt. "Remembering is not the opposite of forgetting," Casey MQ sings at the start of Later that day, the day before, or the day before that, his new LP and Ghostly International debut. It's a phrase fittingly misremembered from something the LA-based, Canadian-born composer came upon as he spiraled into unconscious and subconscious-led writing sessions at the piano. Brachiales Drumming, ein massiv drückendes Basslick und kreischende Gitarren - so eröffnet der heißeste Postpunk-Newcomer vom Monte Scherbelino - dem Trümmerberg aus dem 2. For singer/songwriter Jesse Daniel, country music is nothing short of a life force. The late great Canadian pianist Glenn Gould made two significant and highly acclaimed recordings of Bach's Goldberg Variations, the first in 1955 when he was just twenty- two, presented here on 180g white vinyl, and the second a quarter of a century later in 1981 when he was nearing the end of his life.

Both recordings stand as benchmarks of the repertoire, offering fascinating insights into the music and Gould's approach to it. These recordings have never been out of print - a mark of their status and the respect they command in the canon of Bach recordings.
