“Don´t go out there, you might get shot” was the warning from Donna Maya relatives when she visited Detroit two years ago. That makes her even more curious to explore the city. Disturbed by, as well as fascinated from the dystopian state of Detroit she recorded many places that made (industrial) history, including the Ford factory, the world’s tallest, now abandoned central station and the once magnificent Michigan Theater, that was brutally converted into a parking garage. Donna Maya transformed the sound recordings into artificial sound sculptures combined with electronic beats. Every track is dedicated to one of those places and makes it musically alive. With her theremin Donna Maya guides the listener deeply inside. The result of Donna Mayas 6 weeksstay in Detroit is her album “Lost Spaces -> Detroit". “Lost Spaces ? Detroit” is about how to handle crises, how individuals get along with it and the relationship of society to its culture. Donna Maya understands Detroit as a perfect example for what capitalism does when people give up cultural values. With “Lost Spaces ? Detroit” Donna Maya draws a musical picture of how she experienced Detroit that shows that not only a city got lost, but a living space for everyone: Pure urban experimental electronics with theremin.

Bristolian promoters Worm Disco Club have been championing South-Western talent since their inception in 2014. Having collaborated with Glastonbury Festival on their notorious 'Wormhole' stage and hosted the likes of The Comet Is Coming, The Heliocentrics and The Mauskovic Dance Band at their regular club night, the name has become synonymous with quality groove laden goodness, percussive madness, jazz, psych and beyond. Now proudly presenting their label Worm Discs, the collective recruit some of Bristol's most notable emerging talent for an exploration into the new wave of Jazz emanating from the city. As Andrew Hayes, (Run Logan Run) explains : "Bristol has always had its own sound, but there's been a new crop of young players come through over the past five years that's revitalised the scene and expanded its expectations about what jazz music means. Featuring the likes of Waldo's Gift, Run Logan Run (Montreux Jazz Talent Award winners), BaDaBoom, Lyrebird and Alun Elliot, 'New Horizons' channels the seismic energy of the sonically rich landscape into 12 progressive, psychedelic, impeccably crafted tracks.

Time Lapse is the debut EP from Monzanto Sound, scheduled for release on September 4th 2020 on None More Records. Across the 5 tracks, the four piece journey through krautrock inflected funk, psychedelic trip hop and cosmic neo-soul.

This release follows on from their Moses Boyd produced track 'Open Flower' being included on Rhythm Section's 'Shouts' compilation celebrating 5 years of Rhythm Section, which dropped in April.

The far west has long been known as hollowed ground for Dub Reflective arts, from the birth of Reggae and subsequent Jamaican diaspora to the more recently developments that ultimately informed Dubstep. Many key figures have emerged on the left coast of the USA throughout these developments in Culture and Roots-centric Dubstep, with key among them being the surfacing of LoDubs, and its rise near the advent of the sound in 2006 serving to inform and cement Dub's true DNA at a time when the field of those carrying the torch throughout the region could be counted on a single hand.

This first album proper from Polish composer/violinist Olga Wojciechowska was originally released on CD only by Time Released Sound, and has been out of print for some years. We are very pleased to be bringing you this long overdue vinyl re-press, in an edition of only 200 copies, each of which comes in a beautiful 24pt heavyweight jacket, with translucent 180gm disc.

Maps and Mazes is a stunning collection of 10 pieces that were originally written for various international theater and dance productions, and their overall feel reflects this performative nature. These electronically treated, modern-classical beauties are somewhat dark and moody at times, and with their elegiac violin and haunting horns are both elegant and absorbing, and the ultimately lingering effect is one of series of spine tingling, late night serenades.

this day. Recorded in 1979 but not released until 1999, Propaganda is a collection of the Sound’s earliest known recordings. Highlights include early versions of ‘Missiles’, ‘Night Versus Day’
and ‘Words Fail Me’ - all of which would later appear on the band’s debut album Jeopardy. Pressed on 140g clear vinyl, housed in a printed inner sleeve with original liner notes by frontman Adrian Borland.

Shanti Celeste is a vibe. She’s got that magic lightness of touch even when things are getting Jacques Cousteau deep or panel beating heavy. This makes her the perfect candidate for the Sound of Love International 3, channelling the spirit of both those after-hours sessions and the more frivolous daytime boat parties. This is serious music for serious music heads but, after all, everyone is still on holiday. It’s linear and cohesive but plays with the emotions -carnivalesque fun, psychedelic flow-states, heads-down rhythm trax, playful skipping garage, and more abstract moments. Deep joy to deep space and back, often in the space of 3 or 4 well-selected records.

There’s a deep musical and personal connection to the festival - as she says of her first time playing at the Beach Bar, “there’s a heavy Bristol crew there and it all feels easy and nice. It was just good
vibes all round”. And she does make it sound easy too, which belies a DJ with some very serious skills and an ear for a killer tune that others might well overlook. And it’s this that makes the 3rd instalment of the Sound of Love International such a joy - a welcome panacea to all of us suffering from the Croatian blues this year.

To which end, we get a cheeky exclusive collaboration between Shanti and her sister-in-arms Saoirse in the shape of ‘Solid Mass’. Persian’s uniquely British paean to the post-rave Sunrise ‘Morning Sun’, cavernous dub runnings outta the Bokeh camp from Seekers International. These are the lift- off tunes, setting the mind-state for the journey ahead.

Things tighten up with cult underground hero Lucas Rodenbush under his E.B.E alias giving us the taught, grooving, dubby tech-house and Gideon Jackson’s ‘Taj Mahal’, crisp, spatial, mystical and criminally slept-on. We go deeper into the night with Perpetual’s Awakenings’, one of those records that is so much more than the sum of its parts. And who knew that Mark Seven was such a dab hand with the dank machine funk? Check 1998’s ‘Crank’ for the skinny. By the time Paco Pack’s rubberised ghetto house reimagining bounces into play it’s GAME OVER.

The final side leaves us with the soft landing - Cari Lekebusch ‘Output 2’ is both pacey and drifting and Pauline Anna Strom’s ‘In-Flight Suspension’ does what it says, whips away the drums and leaves us floating in space. Will we ever touch down?

To overuse a phrase, this compilation arrives in strange times but is a glorious reminder of what brought us all together and will again. The music and dancing under the stars. See you in 2021.

"Listening To Pictures", Jon Hassells erste neue Arbeit seit fast einer Dekade, war eine lebhafte Anordnung von Instrumentals in seinem einzigartigen 'Fourth World' Sound aus Jazz, Dub und electroacoustischen Techniken. Mit "Seeing Through Sounds" dringt Hassell tiefer in unbekannte, imaginäre Regionen. Die Atmosphären sind dichter, das Werk klingt nachdenklicher als sein Vorgänger, eine gewisse Spannung lauert in dunklen Ecken. In der Mitte des Albums bemerkt man ein Ruckeln, Stottern, Störgeräusche, bevor langsam wieder Ruhe einkehrt, um schliesslich mit überwältigenden Klängen das Finale einzuleiten, bei dem Avantgardisten wie William Basinksi und The Caretaker grüssen. "Seeing Through Sounds" enthält einige der detailliertesten und verfrachtesten Musiken in der langen Karriere des 'Fourth World' Pioniers.

Originally written and produced as the centrepiece to his 2014 FabricLive compilation, Erol Alkan’s ‘Sub Conscious' arrives on 12” vinyl and to streaming platforms for the first time, accompanied by two charismatic remixes from Manfredas.

Shimmering and undulating, the original cut of ‘Sub Conscious’ was designed with Fabric’s cavernous main room in mind, taking full advantage of any finely tuned soundsystem with a patient, rhythmic trip. Remastered here, the track evolves out of hazy darkness towards halcyon euphoria in a uniquely Alkan style.

Resident at Opium Club in Vilnius, cult DJ and producer Manfredas provides two hugely creative and alternative takes on ‘Sub Conscious’. The first works hallucinatory magic with a supple bassline and much of Alkan’s original stretched and repurposed around vampish oscillations and a westward vocal sample.

On the contrary, the ‘Stream Of Consciousness' mix sees Manfredas pitch down and strum the bones of ‘Sub Conscious’, unexpectedly delivering a lovingly lethargic, bottom-heavy jam that’s pure dub-side pleasure.

A stunning 17-minute-drumming-trip from feathery spheres through bold grooves to a dense thundery finish by Simon Popp and Sebastian Wolfgruber, the two drummers known for channeling World Music, Afrobeat and Jazz drumming in solo projects and with Munich-based Jazz quintet Fazer.
The B-side holds a rework by fellow Munich producers Zenker Brothers. The Ilian Tape heads and notorious audiophiles put their drum machines aside and weaved the recordings with layers of mystic synths into a tingling organic IDM tune.

Reemerging from the threshold of the cosmic vortex, Black Lodge returns with another sonic artifact that is charged with vigorous chaotic energy, known as EXPERIMENT_ZERO. A sonic dialog constructed of various languages, spanning from roots-house jak to bare-knuckled electro are revealed across the artifact - a revolutionary tale that surpasses the constructs of ephemerality, with a refusal to be ignored. Across the release the listener is confronted with fearless acid lines that are underscored by a tone of revolution, and sets the stage for a human voice that switches between modes of a sharp and mutated presence. The power of such sonic objects are both celebrated and rejected by various tribal societies. It is all dependent on the belief structures and traditional histories of its members. Manchester's Lack lands on Livity Sound with the 'Inside' EP following on from recent releases with UK labels Cong Burn and Blank Mind,

This new record distills the Lack aesthetic across four tracks. The title track's pulsating drift channels Chain Reaction and vintage Kode 9; 'Machine Club' brings a thumping deep techno sprawl; whilst the grit laden 'Rrrush and 'Shifter' build and innovate on UK rhythm styles. The 'Inside' EP is a window in to the world of Lack and a major statement of intent from one of the UK's most promising rising producers.

Since launching a decade ago, the label has increasingly focused
it's attention away from generic club sounds and last year's releases include Sigha's IDM-tinged alias Faugust, as well as left-of-centre
EP's from Portrait and AVL.

Joining them for the label's first release of 2020 is innovative Japanese producer 'Masaki Uchida' who displays his prowess as a sound designer and multi-instrumentalist across six tracks. Uchida rips apart a variety of contemporary and classic electronic styles, reassembling them into a uniquely beautiful new whole.

Often walking the line between extremes, the release features both moments of chaos and times of complete silence, exemplary of not only Uchida's bold approach to the song writing process but also
his unquestionable talent as a sound designer and engineer.

Bristol's Ido Plumes debuts for Livity Sound's Reverse series with a stunning three track EP of aquatic textures and UK style grooves.

The 'Away From The Reign' EP is the first glimpse into the sonic world of Ido Plumes, ranging from the nimble dub mechanics of 'Noise Water' to the 2002 schooled Sub-low echoes of 'Which Way is Up'.

Jamaican artist Asha B, features on observational Roots Reggae and Grounation style vocals, with Dubs mixed by Alien Dread. The tracks were recorded at Asha B’s studio, late 2018. The vocal tracks were produced by Asha B and the vocal tracks & Dubs have been re-mixed by Alien Dread…

Asha B has been a regular session musician, not only in Jamaica, but also when he moved to the UK and has worked with most of the ‘Reggae Greats’, in particular, Jackie Mittoo, IJahMan-on tour & studio work and also studio work for many others, both JA & UK. Asha B has had several single releases to date, and also an album: Hard 2 Smile (Quartz Music - 2005).

Frustrated with UK club music's current fixation with tempo, London based artist Kouslin's '2020 Vision' EP delivers four cutting edge, high energy clubs tracks that hover around the 100bpm mark. Drawing on both dancehall influences and the productions of artists such as Harmonic 313 / Mark Pritchard and The Bug, Kouslin carves his own vision for a new decade in UK club music where fine tuned low frequencies and a slower pace can deliver maximum impact.

When he's not working at London's Phonica Records, Kouslin runs the Le Chatroom record label and has a regular slot on London's Balamii radio.

Taken from a Detroit Underground CD on FAMILIAR RECORDS (FMLR 001) first issued in 1999. Only available direct from DETROIT, USA as part of a very small run of self released CD's. All music is by local Artists. The original FORWARD Album was 10 tracks. We selected our favorites and remastered four tracks for release on the Preservation Sound label in 2020. Following more than 25 EP releases over the past 10 years, "Planetary Sound Fiction" is by far RDG's most exhaustive work to date and presents a sound, encompassing anything else released by the Danish producer so far.
