Richard Laviolette (1982–2023) released his second record "a little less like a rock, a little more like home" on CD in 2006 on Burnt Oak Records, an artist-run co-operative and independent record label co-founded by Brad MacInerny, Ryan Newell and jiaqing wilson-yang, active between 2005 and 2007. Burnt Oak was based out of a rented house at 127 Grange Street in Guelph, Ontario, where the collective lived, rehearsed, hung out, and hosted all ages shows, also recording each others’ music, packing and mailing CD orders, and silk-screening and sewing the covers for the albums they released.

Combining folk, rock, and country influences, a little less like a rock, a little more like home is a beloved lo-fi classic of brilliant songwriting and powerful vocals, animated by Richard’s deeply held anti-capitalist, anti-colonial, DIY, and community-based ethos. It includes some of Richard’s most timeless songs and performances, including the unclassifiable magic of Qq, the shockingly intimate and utterly cosmic Ants vs. Universe, and the beautifully fingerpicked folk-song Oncoming Trains.

Don Carlos, one of the very first italian deejays to wrap his productions up in that Deep House aura that was gripping on european clubnights and fast became the soundrack of sunday after hours with sunglasses on and beautiful dawns in the background. Both Don Carlos tunes sold by the loads on 12”s and LPs but never ever came out on a 7”. I’m quite sure many of you already know Mediterraneo while the Flute House take of Alone is an off-the-radar version played systematically by Tony Humphries for ages.

The Carpi-Chicago connection is back to work. Sometimes it just takes a simple riff of a funk guitar to wreak havoc in Soul People minds and that's exactly what happened here. A riff you hear your mate playing one night while having the very last drink and the next day a project is born. Deep vocals, strings stabs, subtle motherf... Fender Rhodes and driving basslines. A Philly inspired dancer you'll can't wait to throw on your decks.

As many of you will probably know, on the flip side of our releases we are use to place the plain instrumental version of the main side. This time it's different. We have worked on "Open Up" with a different approach. Synths, special effects, a pinch of electro claps all marching on a groovy breakbeat inspired by the great James Gadson and backed by an 808 kick. A pumping ground-to-air dance missile written and produced at the dawn of the new century by a duo with some huge music background. Hailing from Montclair State University, Gail Lou is an acclaimed performer, musical director and vocal coach. Her vocal performances in Tri-State’s recording sector, as both lead singer and background vocalist, span from R&B, Gospel, Jazz, to Soul and electronic Dance. Alongside Shawn Lucas, who’s the behind-the-scene producer of the duo, she’s been laying down compositions for music releases and opera and theatre shows soundtracks. This release comes out of a Funk Investigation of my brother Yann. Remastered and adapted to the 7” format it went just straight in the pipeline.

Introducing Idle Minds Workshop / Melbourne based duo Hooves & JPS debuting on Plasma Audio. Staples of the Melbourne music scene, working together as the production outfit "Idle Minds Workshop". Dropping with a slung half time beat "Take Time" features dubbed out lyrics from Rider Shafique, alongside "Opportune" a driving dancefloor half time riddim. Original hand drawn calligraphy brushed by Akane Ito of QQQ Design brings essence into the package giving the feeling of beautifully crafted release, pressed on 10" Vinyl and digital/steaming available on 26th June.

Metrist contributes the second part of his Pollen EP trilogy to Timedance. This instalment sees the producer up the intensity of his sound to a fever pitch. Brash synths, sub drops and bold edits combine to make an evil concoction. His singular production aesthetic showcases meticulous and forceful sound design, but all the time keeps a sense of humour like no one else.

We've had our eyes on Jaures since they formed in 2014. Jaures's drums are neither techno nor electro but something of their very own, making the duo one of the most interesting young production units in Germany right now.
