Hailing from Texas, VALENTINO MALTOS is a lifelong musician and renowned saxophonist. Last year he released his debut solo album ‘Analog Future’. We felt this exciting modern music carves out a fresh pathway and warranted a vinyl release. The picks are PROTOTYPE - Valentino’s interpretation of this song serves up breathy vocals from KIIKII STAR, it’s soulful sentiments make it an alluring composition and the saxophone outro is simply stunning!

On the flip JUST LOOK UP is a genre-fusing piece of music with a gospel undercurrent. The message here is unwavering positivity ‘Lift Your Head Up High’ and great vocals courtesy of MARQELL.

Uplifting, joyful, rapturous - There are not enough superlatives to describe this modern gospel soul anthem from 2006. Presented here as an extended version which gives you more of Bishop Norman’s lead vocal and extra choir.

The original 1975 version on Roulette is a much loved classic. Ron Foster’s 1985 instrumental version is a completely different interpretation with a full 21+ orchestra and now it takes on a new identity with the original lead singer of Whirlwind, Sandi Everett, who recently recorded a new vocal - This composition’s 48 year journey is now fulfilled!

On the flip we are proud to present LEE McDONALD’s LET’S PLAY LUCK, a hidden gem from his iconic LP ‘Sweet Magic’; released on a 7” for the very first time and as an extended mix!

Mississippi Bluesman Vasti Jackson is a force to be reckoned with, as an artist, Vasti is known for sweat-drenched, soul ripping performances.

In 2015 he recorded the real soul masterpiece ‘I’m Still In Love With You’. The song is a testament to the fact that true love never dies. Passion lives forevermore and grows stronger with every kiss and embrace. Share this delicious, sensual, sonic delight with that someone special, and let them know that you are still in love!

The B Side should not be overlooked either, another big sound ballad from two years earlier.

Two amazing originally unissued Kent Soul discoveries that were featured on their Bill Haney’s Atlanta Soul Brotherhood CD from 1998.

The late great Bill Haney, unacknowledged genius of Southern Soul and owner of the revered Chant record label was interviewed by Rod Dearlove and published in Voices From The Shadows. It was recalled that Roy Hamilton came to town to work the clubs, Bill had the dramatic song ‘My Peaceful Forest’, and somehow got the ‘The Golden Voice’ to record it - what an epic production it turned out to be!

Similarly, The Drifter’s Charlie Thomas whilst in town to perform got to record ‘Don’t Let Me Know’, the recording comes in at just over two minutes, we have had an extended version cleared for this 7” release.

Legendary 70s group RIPPLE migrated from the Mid-West to Atlanta, GA. They signed with the new Atlanta based record label GRC and struck gold with their first single ‘I Don’t Know What It Is, But It Sure Is Funky’.

Two songs that never gained release at the time were ‘Maybe It’s You’ - a jazzy soul masterpiece that lilts along before springing into a falsetto crescendo and ‘Sweet Lady’ - an eclectic hodgepodge of influences - soul, funk, latin… the original demo runs at under 3 minutes, thankfully we have had an extended edit cleared (thanks to Phil Ward’s talents) so you get a double dose of the amazing keyboard solo.

The Ray Alexander Technique were four gifted musicians from Harlem led by Raymond Alexander Jenkins, they recorded their solitary LP ‘Let’s Talk’ in 1974. Amongst 70s soul and funk albums it is in the exalted status category.

Selected as a first time on a 45 is ‘Taking The Long Way Home’, a wonderful mid-tempo opus conveying the message of never giving up.

Featured on Side 2 is the band’s final and hideously rare LU JUN 45. Ray’s friend Chris Bartley was enlisted and was the featured vocalist on both songs - ‘I Am In Love With You’ is a stunning sweet soul ballad, whilst ‘I Wonder Why’ takes the tempo up a few notches and packs an equally emotional punch thanks to the great arrangement and Bartley’s achingly wistful performance.

DOWN TO EARTH became an overnight sensation in certain Soul music circles when their previously unreleased album was unleashed six months ago. This long-lost suite of soulful gems was recorded back in 1996 and finally get’s it’s debut vinyl release via IZIPHO SOUL - proud to release this collection of ‘All killers, no fillers’.

Since the 1990s London-based Stevie Paul and Laurence ‘Lol’ Williams have been making songs, creating harmony and performing the world over. The pair’s songwriting styles stem from their love of Soul music.

The long player’s running order has been organised as THE MEAT SIDE AND THE SWEET SIDE for your listening pleasure!

Songwriter supremo James Day has consistently delivered top notch material throughout his career, amassing an amazing set of collaborations.
The All Star Mix of SPEAK LOVE from five years ago features the mouthwatering cast of Glenn Jones, Tony Terry, Tim Owens, U-Nam, Ian Martin, Lin Rountree & Kevin Flint Jackson. This is one of James Day’s most respected compositions and we are thrilled to give this a vinyl release! YOUNG HEARTS originally from 2013 features the majestic vocals of both Kevin Flint Jackson and Tim ‘Tio’ Owens. Presented here as a '2022 Vinyl Exclusive Mix' with changes in the arrangement, Tim Owen’s EW&F sensibilities really shape this track and the note he hits in the meat of the song is worth the price of the admission fee alone!

It was a blessing to make contact with California gospel music icon Leonard Lothlen.

The concept behind this release was to place two gospel compositions recorded fifty years apart on one record! Musically diverse, both inspirational. IN THE PRESENCE features DERICK

Rena delved into her musical vault and retrieved a song which we are thrilled to release on a vinyl 45. ‘You’re So Far Away’ is a tale of the frustrations of a long distance love affair and Rena’s sensuous vocals over this thumping dance tune will surely rattle your woofers!
The idea of developing a further spin to the project was born via the majestic Nigel Lowis and his hot new mix. Rena recorded fresh vocals and the layers were constructed piece by piece - you will hear this attention to detail as the song unfolds. We hope you enjoy these distinctly different versions; the work and dedication from all involved in getting this record to market has been immense.

IZIPHO SOUL are thrilled to announce our forthcoming 45!

Alabama born, Mississippi raised and Louisiana transplanted native, Arthur Foy was a must see entertainer with his own band and show. In 1980 he recorded the absolute masterpiece: ‘Love Dreams’. Rich soulful vocals, expert instrumentation, production and ‘never enough Rhodes’ are everything that a gifted ear craves for.

The original MCS 45 is owned by only a select bunch of DJs and discerning collectors; a proven rarity with only seven copies documented on Popsike.

On the flip we present the southern strutter - ‘Love Storm’ - a song that builds as the title suggests. Co-produced and written with the legendary Carl Marshall adds to the credentials and charm. Sadly Arthur passed away in 2018, his music and performing meant everything to him; we are therefore proud to play our part in his musical legacy and dedicate this record to his memory.

Soul singer and educator Jeff Ramsey sadly passed away in February 2020; we feel the time is right to release this tribute record. Two tremendous but lesser known collaborations with James Day; one with the immense Cleveland P. Jones. A scholarship in Jeff's name has been set up at Berklee College of Music (Boston, MA) and it is our goal that this IZIPHO SOUL vinyl release will enable us to make a welcome contribution.

IZIPHO SOUL are thrilled to announce their next release: Early 80s music from New Jersey of the highest order and a first time re-release on a 45.

IF YOU WANT MY LOVIN’ is a synth-soul boogie bomb that we’ve taken to another level. The ‘Sunshine Mix’ by Philip Ward - miraculously restructured - giving it the feel of a 12” but keeping it under 5 minutes, the instrumental break in the latter stages is simply stunning. The sublime flip ‘HARDLY NEED TO SAY’, hardly needs an introduction. Whilst the Rhodes and intricate guitars weave their way throughout the track, June’s vocals shine with passion and power.

Atlanta soul music hero, RICHARD MARKS, released an impeccable run of 45s, mainly on tiny, local labels. Thanks to many years of work, Eothen Alapatt at Now-Again and Georgia soul authority Brian Poust researched, rescued and released the late great man’s entire works from the Marks family. We have specially selected the two alternate versions of his solitary Shout 45, fitting neatly on one side, backed with his final release: the hideously obscure 80s ballad I CAN’T STAND (Being Alone Without You)

We are honoured to welcome Chicago-based singer extraordinaire Robert IMtume Owens. Robert’s rich and mellifluous voice, layered over Sound Of Superbad’s sophisticated production values are a match made in musical heaven.

On the B Side we present the ’S.O.S. Vibe Mix’, which is heavier on the percussion, with extra strings and synths; all are fuelled by Robert’s trademark soaring vocals.

New Jersey music man Rex Hush, privately pressed ‘Pull Over’ in 1983, it’s an outstanding slab of funky soul, great vocals, cosmic synths and a strong message.

Internet history reveals only a handful of copies of the 45 have ever been sold; along with this proven rarity there’s another treat on the flip!

Recorded at the same session, but never seeing the light of day, we present ‘Summer Breeze’, a beautiful ballad with original, thought-provoking lyrics and masterful musicianship.

Mastered from the original studio reels, these contrasting sides sound absolutely amazing.

JAM CITY (Chicago, USA) & IZIPHO SOUL RECORDS (Surrey, UK) collaborate to bring you one of the finest discoveries of the year, tracked down and first played on Starpoint Radio’s Soul Sermon Show. Blown away on first listen, we knew what we had to do and quickly got to work with producer and writer Al Wordlaw. Back in the late 80s, the singer simply known as ‘RUSHING’ was a local sensation, performing to sold out crowds whenever he was booked for Chicagoland performances; no surprise when you hear these incredible vocals!

Both songs were recorded in 1987, but never released. Thankfully the original reels were kept and have been restored, transferred and mastered for a vinyl release thirty three years later!

In 1978, Roy Roberts produced and wrote a song for soul music legend Eddie Floyd; this melancholy storyliner has languished in the vaults for over forty years. IZIPHO SOUL are thrilled to release on a 45 and continue our Rock House Records/Westwood Music Group licensed collaboration.
