Seine Orchestrierungen für das neue Album „Juno to Jupiter“ erweitern erneut die Horizonte der elektronischen Musik und verwischen die Grenze zwischen ihr und der akustischen symphonischen Musik. Reise durch den Weltraum.

Das Werk fand seine Inspiration in der wegweisenden NASA-Mission, der Raumsonde Juno und ihrer laufenden Erkundung des Jupiters. Es handelt sich um eine multidimensionale Musikreise, begleitet von
der Stimme des Opernsuperstars Angela Gheorghiu .Das Album enthält Klänge vom Juno-Start auf der Erde, von der Sonde und ihrer Umgebung sowie von Junos anschließender Reise, die von der Sonde zur Erde zurückgeschickt wurden. Die Sonde untersucht weiterhin den Jupiter und seine Monde: 365 Millionen Meilen entfernt von der Erde an ihrem nächstgelegenen Punkt.

Die NASA hat Vangelis mit ihrer Public Service Medal ausgezeichnet. Außerdem hat das Minor Planet Center der Internationalen Astronomischen Union den Asteroiden 6354, der sich zwischen Jupiter und Mars befindet, ihm zu Ehren „Vangelis“ genannt, um die internationale Wirkung und Wertschätzung seiner Arbeit sowie seine Beziehung zum Universum zu unterstreichen.

The success of their first album 'Between Wind and Water' spawned the global viral hit 'Wellerman', which gave the band their first Top 40 single. Now, The Longest Johns have returned with a rollicking set of songs and shanties.

Ich nenne es Songwriting und nicht Komposition, es war ein neuer Ansatz für mich: Beim Komponieren denkt man nach und erforscht, vergleicht und ist ehrgeizig. Wenn man ein Lied schreibt, ist es wie Atmen, die Form ist kurz. Ein Lied ist wie die Schönheit eines einzelnen Atemzugs - eine Welle, die kommt und geht. Es ist schön, wie es ist - es braucht nichts anderes.“

”Brightside” heißt das 4. Album von Wesley Schultz und Jeremiah Fraites, alias The Lumineers. Produziert wurde es von den längjährigen Partnern in Crime Simone Felice (The Felice Brothers) und David

Recorded at United Recording Studio, Hollywood, December 27–30, 1966. Prior releases have included heavy-handed dynamics processing and added echo. For this issue, the first-generation master tapes are presented as they were recorded, transporting the listener into the room and into a true Flamenco performance by the Royal Family of Spanish Guitar, and Ms. Victoria.

Revolutionary in its time, ‘The Firebird’ is a story in musical textures and dynamics perfectly suited to the Mercury technique. Dorati and The LSO present each nuance in perfect scale and balance. Recorded in Watford Town Hall, near London UK, June 7 and 9, 1959 with three Schoeps M201 microphones.

Long a collector favourite, this early stereo recording presents a set of lively American light classics: ‘Mexican Rhapsody’ (Robert McBride); ‘Savannah River Holiday’ (Ron Nelson); ‘Kentucky Mountain Portaits’ (Lyndol Mitchell); ‘Joe Clark Steps Out’ (Charles G. Vardell Jr.). Recorded in the Eastman Theatre, Rochester NY, October 28, 1956 with a Schoeps M201 microphone in the centre and Neumann U-47’s on the left and right sides.

Available on vinyl for the first time in decades, the recording that birthed a label: Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, with Rafael Kubelik conducting the Chicago Symphony Orchestra - the release which led Howard Taubman, chief music critic of The New York Times to write, "One feels one is listening to the living presence of the orchestra".. Incredible detail and fidelity, recorded with a single Neumann U-47 microphone in Chicago’s Orchestra Hall, April 24, 1953.

"The Gurrumul Story" is the first ever anthology of the nine time ARIA award-winner's most enduring and popular songs. The collection contains alternate versions of two of Gurrumul's most popular tracks. 'Wiyathul (Longing For Place)' is a brand new, orchestrally-augmented version of 'Wiyathul' - the song that thrust Gurrumul into the limelight back in 2008. A Fable is Tigran Hamasyan’s first solo album after having recorded three previous albums as a leader. Released in 2011 it was hailed for the rare maturity of an all young musician to deliver such a landmark recording. At that time the pianist has been identified as one of the most important jazz revelations by critics impressed by his artistry. Well known for the way he fuses potent jazz improvisation with the rich folkloric music of his native Armenia, Tigran once again borrowed from the rich tradition he inherited and made a giant step with A Fable. Hamasyan gives a stunning one-man show with definite nods to Monk and Miles Davis, to Liszt and Debussy, while creating a space that is distinctly his.

Tchamantché, meaning “point of equilibrium” in Bambara, is the fourth album of Mali singer Rokia Traoré. Released in 2008, and dedicated to her fellow countryman Ali Farka Touré, one of the African continent's most internationally renowned musicians, the album is a turning point in the singer’s career after she has spent a large part of it revisiting the Malian musical tradition. Tchamantché reveals a unique sound in which electric Gretsch guitar riffs come to mingle with the ancestral sounds of Malian instruments, offering a new setting to her crystalline voice. If Traoré favors minimalist and emotional acoustic ballads, she clearly assumes her blues and even rock influences, signing an intimate and voluptuous album of artistic maturity.

Helen Merrill's recording career has spanned six decades. On Lilac Wine, released in 2003, the eminent jazz singer applies her magnificent voice to a collection of songs that she had never previously recorded, with the exception of ‘Lilac Wine’ – a song she first recorded in the '50s and revisits here. As throughout her long recording career, Merrill is surrounded here by first-rank musicians such as George Mraz (bass), Torrie Zito (piano, keyboard, arrangements) and Lew Soloff (trumpet). Merrill's singularly swinging style remains as potent and vibrantly spellbinding as ever.

If one were asked to pick an album that represented the best of British jazz in the 1960s, Le Déjeuner Sur l’Herbe by the New Jazz Orchestra would be a serious contender. Recorded in September 1968, it draws together many of the key streams that had developed in British jazz in the preceding years, and also presages much of what was to come. Notwithstanding the line-up, which includes some of the very best British jazz musicians directed by an inventive and ingenious leader in Neil Ardley, the session features pieces written by the most distinctive jazz composers active in Britain at that time alongside idiosyncratic interpretations of works by John Coltrane and Miles Davis. And it’s all captured beautifully by engineer Howard Barrow and producer Tony Reeves and it features a stella cast of some of the greatest musicians, not just from that era or genre but beyond; Jack Bruce, who would become one of the founding members of Cream, Barbara Thompson, Ian Carr, Michael Gibbs, Dave Gelly, Dick Heckstall-Smith and Jon Hiseman, who went on to form one of the greatest jazz/progressive/rock bands – Colosseum.

Drawn from the iconic labels of Decca, Deram, Argo, EMI Columbia/Lansdowne Series, Fontana, Mercury, & Philips. Kenny Wheeler was born Canada in 1930 and, with encouragement from his father - himself a trombone player - began playing trumpet at age 12. After studying at Toronto’s Royal Conservatory, he arrived in London in 1952, his playing enveloped in the sounds of Miles Davis, Booker Little, and Fats Navarro. In 1959, Wheeler joined the Johnny Dankworth Orchestra and stayed there until 1963, although he returned frequently for shows and other projects in the years that followed. He quickly become a distinguished soloist in the Orchestra and appeared on Dankworth’s key sixties albums. Wheeler met and played with the rising artists of London’s free jazz scene. Players such as Trevor Watts, Derek Bailey, and Evan Parker, musicians who would challenge the conventions of the day, eschewing formal composition and structure to embark on group improvisation. For a musician thoroughly schooled in all the conventions of charts and dance bands as Wheeler was, this was a radical departure. Wheeler’s contributions proved his ample flexibility and showed he was capable of inhabiting both the free environment and the more formal and controlled settings of a big band and orchestra. This was shown most clearly on his debut album, Windmill Tilter, recorded for Fontana with the John Dankworth Orchestra. The album features a young John McLaughlin on guitar along with bassist Dave Holland and a roster of talented and well respected musicians playing on one of the greatest modern jazz big band and orchestral albums.

A figure in British modern jazz for over half a century, Don Rendell was both active protagonist and key witness to the main developments in the music from its rise out of tiny clubs and back rooms on up to the most prestigious national stages. From his earliest performances in London’s West End and his work of the 50s and 60s — most not ably with the Don Rendell-Ian Carr Quintet — to the lower profile work of the 70s and 80s, his quite assurance and consistent performance marked him out as a highly respected figure among his peers. He is one of a handful of British artists to feature on Blue Note Records and appeared on some of the most distinctive and characterful British jazz albums by the likes of Michael Garrick, Stan Tracey, Amancio D’Silva, and Neil Ardley. Even though Rendell eschewed much of the free and electric fusion styles that came to the fore in the late 60s, in the main sticking to an acoustic sound with melody and rhythm at its heart, he similarly bridled at any notion that he was merely a ‘bopper’, a description he positively hated. In many ways, Space Walk was as much a valedictory as transitionary album for Rendell. It was his last for Denis Preston, the fabled producer behind Lansdowne Studios, described by Neil Ardley as a ‘rare Diaghilev like figure’ who steered many of the key figures of the British jazz scene into the studio when nobody else would record them. It was also Rendell’s final project for EMI Columbia and his last as a leader for a major record label. After Space Walk, Rendell would record for smaller, independent labels like Spotlite. But as much as the album is a farewell to one chapter, it also marked the way forward to the next..

The wisdom of Tony Allen's words was as deep as his grooves, and these two sentences, which announce the dozen songs that follow, truly capture the spirit of There is No End. Tony’s motivating concept and desire was to work with younger artists, and especially the new generation of rappers, and give them voice in a time of global turmoil when music has never been more important – not necessarily as a "weapon" for the future in the manner of Fela's violently political songs, but also as medicine to heal a fractured world today.



For all those who knew him, he was a deeply spiritual man whose life's mission was not just to create a new musical language, but to pass it on to subsequent generations. In thinking back on the incredible process of creating this album without Tony physically present to guide him, producer Vincent Taeger remarked that his friend and mentor "was a teacher without speaking... a drummer and a guardian, with a great artistic vision and that vision filled the songs even after he had left us." Ben Okri, like everyone else involved in this valedictory album, had a very similar experience, declaring in awe that "this man could have lived another 150 years and kept creating new worlds. He had become the master shaman of his art. He knew himself and his mind. He wanted the album to be open to the energies of a new generation... but like a great mathematician or scientist who found a code of for a new world, with just a few beats, he created this extraordinary canvas."
